Posters

I'm getting posters soon.  I ordered two posters from Hookgrip, a company that weightlifting fans most definitely know.  But for those who aren't familiar, they go to the big weightlifting competitions and take pictures and videos.  And they also happen to do custom posters, and sell other stuff like shirts and hoodies. I did a little bit of research, and seems like Hookgrip is mostly a one man show, run by Nat Arem.  He was great with my poster requests; got me proofs very quickly, both pictures almost exactly what I wanted.  Replied to my questions very meticulously.  Would love to buy from him again.  Definitely recommend. I was initially going to buy the posters from IronMind, the Milo cover posters.  I was thinking the Lasha, Ilya and Dimas ones, for $45.  And they were great posters of legendary lifters, but I felt like, i needed some personal tailoring. So anyways, about the posters I got.  So the two pictures I got were: ...

Stanford football thoughts and analysis

Image
Intro I've been meaning to write something about Stanford football for a while now.  I started really watching college football when I got to college, and it was on TV pretty much the entire weekend.  I knew the rules but I'd never really given a thought about the X's and O's, schemes and concepts, stuff like that.  Then I wanted to really follow Stanford football the year Christian McCaffrey had a Heisman worthy season.  It was awesome watching him play; he looked like just a different breed, making defenders miss.  He was also jacked as hell which made me an even bigger fanboy for him.  So I officially started following Stanford from the 2016 season and got to see some great games.  I remember the very first full game I watched, the season opener against UCLA. Ryan Burns winning the game with a one minute drivĂ„e, the last play a beautiful fade route pass to JJ Arcega Whiteside.  I don't think we had a season under 8 wins for a long time....

This movie was just confusing

If you can't tell from my past few posts, I've been on a movie watching frenzy.  Some have been interesting and thought provoking, but sometimes we like watching something light, or a cute chick flick.  A couple Jesse Eisenberg movies like Adventureland , Zombieland and American Ultra .  I mean they weren't the deepest, most cohesive storylines, but they were alright.   So then I decided to watch another chick flick that I watched before and remembered it being decent.  I don't exactly remember when I watched it before, probably on a plane?  The movie is 10 Things I Hate About You .  I just remembered Joseph Gordon Levitt looking real young.  So I was like ok, let's give it a try again.   I try not to review movies that I didn't like, mostly because it's really not interesting to talk about them.  But this movie was like, another level of weird and confusing.  And also mildly infuriating, which was why I wanted to ...

Paterson

Watched Paterson today.  Man I'm on a roll with these movies lately.  Probably because I'm bored.  But anyways.   So I've watched this movie before, probably like 2, 3 years ago, I'd like to say.  I remembered there being more to the movie when I saw it before.  I swore the dog must've gotten kidnapped in a minor way, that I'd see some characters like the young poet girl and the laundromat rapper multiple times in the movie, when in fact no, we just see them once each.  So that was, a little weird for me.  It was like oh, guess the movie was a lot simpler than I thought it was.   The person I was watching a movie with wanted to watch a synopsis/ video-essay ish thing of the movie, and I was like no wait I need to try and think of what was going on, like try to process it myself before diving into anything like that.  So here I am.   The first thing that struck me rewatching this film, and probably something...

Romeo and Juliet

Watched the 1968 Romeo and Juliet film yesterday.  Mostly because the person playing Juliet was really hot.  I remembered watching the movie in high school, I think for my English class, and saying wow she's hot.  I found out yesterday that she was only 15 in the movie.  Yikes... this movie would never fly today.  Even when I read Romeo and Juliet back in high school, I never thought it was a boring read.  For the very little I actually understood, I thought it was pretty clever.  I think I was a little more receptive to reading that book than I was for the other ones in that class.  And watching the movie again, I kind of understand why.  The story really isn't that complicated, unlike the other stories where I think there were more political talk being thrown around, and the stories were much more violent.  I really didn't understand at all what they were saying, much like in high school.  But the story made sense.  Oh this...

Don Hertzfeldt

Watched "It's Such A Beautiful Day" by Don Hertzfeldt today for what I think is like the 4th time I've watched it.  It's amazing, there are no other words. I found out that Don had made the film free for the time being, while everyone's locked up and in need of entertainment.  You can check his tweet about it here:  https://twitter.com/donhertzfeldt/status/1240681279269543937 .  It's super nice that he did this, and I'm very thankful. I must have watched it not too long ago, but I had honestly forgotten most of what was in the movie, in a really refreshing way. I think I'm going to try and just say whatever I thought about the film, so if anyone's reading this and is afraid of spoilers, might want to read what's coming up after you've watched it. Okay so now that the disclaimer's there... After watching the film, I'm left with this odd uncomfortable feeling that I have to live my life fuller.  Which is kind of those fe...
